Today's Housing Symposium featuring Eloy van Hal of de Hogeweyk in the Netherlands was a huge success! The attendees experienced the Netherlands community which allows individuals with dementia to live life as usual. That was the main focus. Our challenge is to bring this to the NY metro area.
Mr. van Hal's talk was inspiring. All the panelist brought their expertise to the table and faced the challenges of bringing this kind of senior living to fruition. We are so grateful for generously giving of your time and talent to this event: Rosemary Bakker, MS, is a certified interior designer, gerontologist and dementia specialist; Marie Alvarez, Executive Director of NY StateWide Senior Action Council; Timothy McManus, Vice President of Catholic Charities Progress of Peoples (POP) Development Corporation; Kate Schneider, Programming Specialist for the Reflections memory care program at The Bristal. The symposium was proficiently moderated by Judith D. Grimaldi, Esq. and Britt Burner, Esq.We will continue this conversation to move this dream into more concrete examples of services that incorporate the de Hogeweyk way …
